"Excusez-moi Monsieur/Madame": Excuse me (ex-CUE-zeh-moi mih-SYOOR/muh-DAM)
" S'il vous plait Monsieur/Madame" : Please (SEEL-voo-PLAY)
" Merci Monsieur/Madame" : Thank you (mare-SEE)
" Au revoir Monsieur/Madame" : Good Bye (Of-wa)

Note that French spoken with an English or American accent can be very difficult for the average French person to understand. In such circumstances, it may be best to write down what you are trying to say. But tales of waiters refusing to serve tourists because their pronunciation doesn't meet French standards are highly exaggerated. A good-faith effort will usually be appreciated, but don't be offended if a waiter responds to your fractured French in English.

France Most Popular Tourist Attractions

 Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower is a symbol of Paris and one of the top tourist attractions in France. The tower was built by Gustave Eiffel as the entrance arch for the International Exhibition of Paris of 1889. Since its construction more than 200,000,000 people have visited the Eiffel Tower making it the most visited paid tourist attraction in the world.

 Notre Dame de Paris
No trip to Paris could be complete without a visit to the world famous Notre Dame cathedral. Standing more than 400 feet (120 meters) high with two lofty towers and a spire, this marvelous church is considered a supreme example of French Gothic architecture. A tour of this 13th century masterpiece allows visitors to admire the awe-inspiring rose windows, Gothic carvings, beautiful sculptures and a collection of relics.

Gorge du Verdon
The Gorge du Verdon is a river canyon in south-eastern France that is considered by many to be Europe's most beautiful.

Chateau de Chambord
This second most visited chateau in France (after Versailles), is a masterpiece of the French Renaissance. Construction of the Chateau de Chambord started in 1519 by King Francois I so he could hunt in the nearby forests. The cold and massive 440 rooms of the Chateau made it unpopular as an actual residence and Francois I himself stayed here for less than 40 days in total.

Palace of Versailles
Built in 1624 by Louis XIII, the Palace of Versailles remained the official residence of the Kings of France until October 1789 when the royal family was forced to return to Paris during the French Revolution.

Chamonix is a famous ski resort in the French Alps at the foot of Mont Blanc. It was the site of the first Winter Olympic games in 1924. In winter world-class skiers and boarders push themselves to extremes on Europe's most challenging slopes while in the summer months Chamonix is a mecca for alpine mountaineers and mountain bikers.

St Tropez
Located on the French Riviera, St Tropez is known for its famous and extremely wealthy summer guests. It has been dubbed the playground of the jetset, fashion models, and millionaires. Outside peak summer there are less celebrities to spot but you will also instantly appreciate what lured artists, writers and film makers to this picturesque village.

Centre Pompidou
Designed in the style of high-tech architecture, Centre Pompidou is a cultural institution in the Beaubourg area of the 4th arrondissement. It houses a vast public library, the Musee National d'Art Moderne which is the largest museum for modern art in Europe, a bookshop, a movie theater and a panoramic terrace. The library occupies the first three floors of the building, while the museum's permanent collection is located on floors 4 and 5. The first and top floor are used for large expositions.
